Dating in Midlife is like Peeling an Orange with Mittens On

I wrote that thought down while sitting in church. The sermon had nothing to do with dating. Or oranges.

Have you ever tried to peel an orange with mittens on? If at any point while reading this, you feel any kind of judgment, please stop reading…try to peel an orange in mittens…and then come back to me.

I’m officially at the age where I don’t want to tell people my age. Most people have no idea how to respond and quite frankly, neither do I.

Have you ever tried to peel an orange with mittens on? One thing I’ll say…when you attempt it…you’ll find yourself with a lot of time on your hands to ponder life’s existential questions while trying to get a good grip on the peel. Choosing the orange is fine. Holding it in your hand is a little slippery, but easy enough. But peeling? Getting to the fruit inside?

It seems like everyone around me is already eating oranges. They keep talking about how great they are. How great they are in baking. How people were created to have oranges in their diet. Cool.

I give up and learn how to juggle. At least it looks like I’m having fun. Maybe I’ll switch to apples.
